Job Description

Position Objective:

• The Weaving Design Engineer is responsible for converting customer CAD drawings into weaving machine–ready design files, ensuring dimensional accuracy, manufacturability, and product quality. The role acts as a technical bridge between customers’ CAD design providers and the weaving production process.


Position Scope

• Report to the Industrial Engineering Manager or Process Development Manager / Manufacturing Center Manager.

• Support the APDS process and continuous process improvements.

• Follow and promote all ALV Vietnam policies and procedures.

• Support intra department activities.


Tasks/ Responsibilities: (Main Activities)

Design Data Handling & Conversion

• Receive and review CAD drawings and technical specifications from customers.

• Convert customer CAD drawings into weaving machine design software formats (e.g., jacquard or loom software).

• Optimize designs to meet weaving process capabilities and material limitations.

• Ensure all transferred designs maintain original functional intent and dimensional requirements.

Technical Coordination & Design Clarification

• Communicate directly with customer CAD drawing creators or internal design teams to clarify requirements.

• Identify and resolve minor design issues such as tolerances, unclear dimensions, weave feasibility, or missing information.

• Provide technical feedback and suggestions to improve design manufacturability without affecting customer intent.


Dimensional Verification & Physical Measurement

• Measure real woven products using appropriate measuring tools (calipers, rulers, templates, etc.).

• Compare actual product dimensions against design drawings and specifications.

• Analyze deviations and identify root causes related to design, machine settings, or material behavior.

• Propose corrective actions and update design files as required.


Documentation & Design Control

• Maintain accurate design records, revisions, and change histories.

• Ensure all approved designs are properly released for production.

• Support engineering documentation related to weaving design standards and best practices.


Cross-Functional Support

• Cooperate closely with Production, Quality, and Process Engineering teams to support trials, first articles, and mass production.

• Support problem-solving activities related to weaving design issues in production or customer feedback.

• Organize and lead internal related activities according to project timing plan, take in charge of all project related things from project build-up to mass production;

• Interface with PTL as the plant project window

• Make JC files according Drawing from engineering, lead / participate DFM

Key Challenges

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

• Good communication skills for technical discussions with customers and internal teams.

• Analytical and problem-solving mindset.

• Ability to handle multiple design revisions and meet deadlines.

• Comfortable working between office design work and shop-floor verification.


Key Relationships (Internal & External)

• Office-based design work combined with shop-floor activities for measurement and verification.

• May require close coordination with customers, suppliers, and production teams.

• Good Teamwork


Key Selection Criteria / Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Textile Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.

• Experience from 1-3 years

• Experience with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD or similar).

• Experience or knowledge of weaving machine design software is highly preferred.

• Basic understanding of textile weaving processes and materials.

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

• Hands-on experience in measurement and dimensional verification of physical products.

• Good English speaking and writing;

• Minimum 3 years work experience (Preferably Automotive)

• Knowledge of lean manufacturing preferable.
