The Role

This role will start part-time (10–20 hours per week) with the potential to transition into a full-time technical leadership role as the platform scales.

You will lead the platform architecture and technical direction while working alongside developers, DevOps engineers and the UAT team to ensure the system is built efficiently, securely and with long-term scalability in mind.

This role is primarily focused on architecture and technical leadership, but we are also looking for someone comfortable being hands-on when required, particularly around backend architecture, data modelling and system design.

You will help define the technology stack, validate developer implementation, review architecture decisions and ensure development follows best practices across performance, scalability and security.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Architecture

• Design and maintain the overall platform architecture
• Define service boundaries, APIs and core system modules
• Architect the platform for multi-tenant SaaS scalability
• Guide technical decisions for the MVP and long-term platform evolution
• Ensure the system remains modular, scalable and extensible

Backend & Data Architecture

This role is primarily backend and data architecture focused. Responsibilities include:

• designing scalable APIs and service architecture
• defining database architecture and data models
• designing ingestion pipelines and background processing systems
• ensuring performance, reliability and scalability of the platform

Security Architecture

Design and validate key security layers including:

• tenant data isolation
• row-level security and access control
• API authentication and authorization
• encryption and secure data storage
• audit logging and traceability
• protection against data leakage or privilege escalation

Development Oversight

• Review developer architecture decisions and code
• Validate performance, concurrency handling and scalability
• Ensure high standards of maintainable code and system design
• Identify improvements in database models and APIs
• Guide efficient engineering practices

 

DevOps & Engineering Delivery Leadership

You will help oversee engineering delivery and ensure the platform is deployed and maintained using modern DevOps practices.

Responsibilities include:

• guiding development and DevOps workflows
• overseeing CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes
• ensuring reliable staging, testing and production environments
• coordinating development, infrastructure and UAT activities
• improving engineering efficiency and release cycles
• ensuring platform reliability, monitoring and observability

You may work with or guide DevOps engineers responsible for infrastructure and deployments.

AI-Assisted Engineering

We actively encourage AI-assisted development workflows.

You will guide the team in using tools such as:

• Claude
• Codex
• AI-assisted coding environments

to improve:

• developer productivity
• automated code generation
• testing workflows
• documentation
• engineering efficiency

Data Platform Design

Assist in designing the core data models for:

• supply chain data analytics
• supplier and product data modelling
• pricing and market intelligence systems
• data ingestion and analytics pipelines

QA and UAT Oversight

Work with the UAT team to ensure:

• architecture integrity
• security layers are properly implemented
• performance requirements are met
• new features align with platform architecture standards

Platform Architecture Overview

The MegaMine platform will consist of core platform services and modular product modules.

Core Platform Services

These services form the foundation of the system:

• Authentication and tenant management
• Data ingestion and normalization pipelines
• Price indexing and analytics engines
• Search capabilities (keyword and semantic)
• Alert and notification systems
• Audit logging

Infrastructure & Technology Experience

While the final architecture will be defined by the Platform Architect, experience with modern SaaS infrastructure and data platforms is expected.

Relevant experience may include:

Frontend Platforms

• modern web frameworks such as React or Next.js
• TypeScript-based frontend architectures

Backend Platforms

• Node.js, TypeScript or similar backend frameworks
• modular API architectures
• REST or GraphQL APIs

Data Platforms

• PostgreSQL or other relational databases
• time-series or analytics databases
• caching and queue systems (e.g. Redis)

Storage

• object storage systems such as S3-compatible storage

Infrastructure & DevOps

• AWS, GCP or similar cloud platforms
• CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or similar)
• containerisation (Docker)
• infrastructure as code (Terraform or similar)
• monitoring and observability tooling

Background Processing

Experience designing systems with background processing such as:

• ingestion pipelines
• alert processing
• notification systems
• scheduled data integrations

Your Skills and Experience

About You

You are an experienced architect who has built scalable SaaS platforms or data-intensive systems.

You are comfortable leading architecture decisions while also contributing hands-on when required, particularly in backend systems and data modelling.

You enjoy shaping the foundations of early-stage platforms and working with small, high-performing engineering teams.

Required Experience

• SaaS platform architecture
• backend system design and development
• relational database architecture (e.g. PostgreSQL)
• API design and distributed systems
• multi-tenant SaaS system design
• cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP or similar)
• experience leading engineering teams including developers, DevOps and QA

• AI / LLM integrations
• vector databases or RAG pipelines
• data analytics or intelligence platforms
