Job Description

The Lean Lead drives the development and implementation of Lean methodologies delivering high impact change and targeted operational improvements at HATECO Haiphong International Container Terminal (HHIT). The position leads and supports the sustainability of kaizen cycle initiatives that define new processes to eliminate waste and create efficiencies, while leveraging subject matter experts from the business. You are expected to successfully deliver objectives, including ways to collaborate more effectively and efficiently to drive synergies.


Be the local change agent for the terminal Lean program elements

• Support the Implementation of APMT Business System elements with the senior leaders and team members and provide on ground support to ensure global standards are being understood and put in practice locally.

• Train and coach improvement project team members, sponsors, and functional leaders on change management principles, tools, and their roles in effective change.

• Positively coach, influence and actively manage leadership behavioural change according to the principles developed in the Lean program.

• Coordinate and drive the local implementation of the Lean program, including Process Standardization, Operating System, Lean Academy and Improvement activities (Kaizens)

• Lead day-to-day change management activities while providing the appropriate levels of support and mentoring to team members.

• Support Policy Deployment rollout.

• Facilitate Lean training, kaizen and problem-solving workshops.

• Mature the Operating System elements

• Coordinate the data gathering and validation for the program KPI’s

• Provide timely reporting on program progress, issues and risks

• Continuously review progress and risks according to plans and make necessary changes to action plans to ensure objectives are met.

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in management, Business Administration, Port, Project Management, Industrial Engineering.

• At least 3-5 years of experience in lean training or a Continuous Improvement deployment role.

• Strong Lean Education – Certified Green or Black Belt is a Must

• Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

• Project Management certification (PMP) is an advantage.

• Experience with terminal operations is an advantage.

• Good presentation and workshop facilitation skills.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Ability to interact effectively with all levels of management.

• Ability to positively Influence others.

• Have the guts and abilities to challenge, mentor and coach senior leaders.

• Ability to drive implementation of new processes and support organizational changes.

• Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

• Results driven, with a strong analytical and problem-solving skill set.

• Open minded, positive attitude and high drive to succeed and break through barriers.

• Ability to perceive situations from different perspectives and angles.

• Clear, persuasive and collaborative communication & influencing skills.

• Experience working in virtual project team and working with external consultants.

• Have strong relationship building skills, at all levels, especially with frontline employees.

• Be self-motivated and always strive for excellence and exceeding expectations.
