
Lab Colorist

Job Description
1. Job Function / Purpose
The Lab Colorist is responsible for ensuring color conformance and consistency of incoming materials and finished garments for production.

2. Position Dimension & Relationships
• Provide color evaluation comments and conclusions to internal and external stakeholders.
• Work closely with regional and corporate quality teams, planning and sourcing functions.
• Communicate externally with suppliers, contractors, and related vendors.
• Work under direct supervision of the Team Leader / Lab Manager.

3. Primary Responsibilities
• Perform visual and instrumental color approvals for bulk materials.
• Execute DIPs, strike-offs, and bulk approvals using visual and/or instrumental methods.
• Conduct post-testing color evaluations (molding, color change, staining, etc.).
• Ensure all garment components match approved color standards.
• Provide color guidance to suppliers/factories for unacceptable submissions.
• Maintain color comments and results in the lab system.
• Establish and distribute electronic production color targets via spectrophotometer.
• Complete color approvals on time to support on-time delivery.
• Ensure color consistency across brands, collections, and production lots.
• Ensure accuracy and consistency of instrumental color evaluation.
• Communicate regularly with mills regarding color trends.
• Communicate pass/fail color results to stakeholders.
• Prepare and distribute approved AI plots for color improvement.
• Participate in color approval process improvement projects.
• Ensure lab compliance with company Color Compliance programs.
• Perform correlation tests with other labs when required.
• Conduct routine equipment maintenance and intermediate checks.
• Monitor temperature and humidity conditions in the lab.
• Follow HBI test methods, Color Manual, and QA guidelines.
• Archive, return, or dispose of samples per procedures.
• Maintain inventory of lab supplies.
• Maintain clean and organized lab environment.
• Follow all Health, Safety, and Environmental policies.
• Comply with quality system protocols and reporting accuracy.
• Participate in supplier performance review meetings.
• Support ISO/IEC 17025 implementation and maintenance.
• Assist with training, new equipment commissioning, and method validation.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Management.

4. Experience / Skills / Education Requirements
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Textile or related technical field
• Or technical degree with at least 2 years in Textile or Dyeing
Skills:
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
• Written and spoken English proficiency
Experience:
• 0–2 years
• Experience in Textile or Garment industry preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong visual and instrumental color evaluation skills
• Ability to use spectrophotometer, light box, and color tools
• Strong housekeeping and equipment maintenance skills
Competencies:
• Ability to work independently and in teams
• Multitasking capability
• Excellent color perception (Farnsworth-Munsell 100-Hue Test)
• Compliance with Health & Safety and professional conduct standards
