Head / Manager Ground Station Software

Role Overview

We are seeking a Head / Manager of Ground Station Software to own the strategy, architecture, and execution of VinSpace’s ground software systems. This role is responsible for building and scaling the end-to-end ground segment software stack that enables reliable command, control, and data delivery for a growing satellite constellation.

You will operate at the intersection of engineering leadership, system architecture, and program execution, with accountability for delivery, team growth, and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

1. Ground Software Strategy & Ownership

• Define and execute the ground segment software roadmap aligned with constellation deployment plans

• Own the end-to-end architecture:

o TT&C systems

o Mission Control System (MCS)

o IoT payload data pipelines

• Make build vs. buy decisions for ground software components and infrastructure

2. System Architecture & Technical Oversight

• Establish scalable, cloud-native architecture for multi-satellite operations

• Define standards for:

o APIs, data models, and system interfaces

o Space–ground protocols (e.g., CCSDS or custom)

• Ensure system reliability, cybersecurity, and performance at production scale

3. Team Leadership & Organizational Build-Out

• Build, lead, and scale a ground software organization (initially 3–5 engineers, growing over time)

• Hire key talent, define roles, and develop technical leadership bench

• Establish engineering culture:

o Code quality, CI/CD, automated testing

o Ownership, accountability, and execution discipline

4. Constellation Operations Enablement

• Deliver systems that support:

o Multi-satellite scheduling and optimization

o Automated pass execution and monitoring

o Store-and-forward IoT workflows

• Drive automation-first operations to support scaling from 1 → N satellites

5. Cross-System Integration (End-to-End Ownership)

• Ensure seamless integration across:

o Satellite onboard systems (OBC, payloads, ADCS interfaces)

o RF/ground hardware (antennas, SDRs, modems)

o Cloud platforms and customer-facing APIs

• Own data flow integrity from space to end-user applications

6. Operational Excellence & Mission Support

• Define and enforce SLA/SLOs for ground system availability and performance

• Lead readiness for:

o LEOP (Launch and Early Orbit Phase)

o Routine operations and anomaly resolution

• Implement robust monitoring, alerting, and incident response processes

7. External Partnerships & Ecosystem

• Manage relationships with:

o Ground station providers (if hybrid network is used)

o RF and SDR vendors

o Cloud providers (AWS/GCP/Azure)

• Represent VinSpace in technical discussions with partners and customers

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or related field

• 8–12+ years of experience in software engineering or systems engineering

• 3–5+ years in engineering management or technical leadership roles

Strong expertise in:

• Distributed systems, backend architecture, and APIs

• Linux-based systems and DevOps practices

• Leading complex, cross-disciplinary engineering projects

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with:

◦ Satellite ground systems (TT&C, MCS) or telecom infrastructure

◦ IoT platforms or data pipeline architectures

◦ SDR and RF system integration

◦ CCSDS or similar communication protocols

• Prior experience scaling systems from prototype → operational → constellation level
